Residential architecture of the first quarter of the 20th century was still enjoying the spirit of Colonial Revivalism long after it was first introduced more than fifty years earlier. Fine neighborhoods such as Crestwood saw a continued interest in this style as well as Tudor Revivals, for which this part of the neighborhood is known. The northernmost part of Crestwood is home to many large residences that were the equivalent of country-style, in-town estates of numerous affluent suburbs throughout the United States. This c. 1927 house is the best combination of period details and exceptional renovations. The current owners showed enormous restraint and circumspection in undertaking a plan that was respectful of the design and workmanship of the original, along with a revised interior that exceeds contemporary expectations. The facade and frontispiece offer symmetry, beautifully wrought details, and a perfect disposition on a large lot near other handsome residences. The portico, supported by paired columns of the Doric order, suggests what may be found within. While true to its original floor plan, the first floor is remarkably open and spacious, much like what one would expect in today's construction. The kitchen and bathrooms were all renovated with a small, but exquisite set of materials and fixtures that create the feeling that this is what the house would look like were it built today. All four floors offer gracious and comfortable proportions along with rooms that are flexible in their uses. The house offers approximately 4,600 square feet of interior living space with an open concept kitchen and dining room, living room with fireplace, sunroom, and powder room on its main level. The second level comprises a master suite with two walk-in closets and a sybaritic ensuite bathroom, as well as two additional bedrooms, one full bathroom, and washing machine and dryer. The finished third floor has two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The lower level provides a family room, full bathroom, utility room, and storage room. In addition to its private garden and rear terrace, the property features a detached two-car garage.
